Money lending is the bane of rural India. In Vidarbha region, where no. of farmer suicides has touched almost 600, debt at rates of 50-100 % per annum is the root cause of suicides. Now, our Prime minister, the good Doctor Manmohan Singh is going to pay the obligatory visit to this region and do the announcement routine.



In preparation, new roads are being laid but did you know that a local Congress MLA comes from the family which is the biggest money-lender in the region?



More than 40 cases for moneylending, kidnapping, torture have been registered against the family. Moreover, the state Chief Minister tells the local police to go easy on the perpetrators.

NDTV reports that the Primie Minister will announce a relief package of Rs. 4500 crores for farmers in six districts in Maharashtra.



But who will root out money-lending from India?



As the Indian Express reports, last year alone, the Maharashtra government registered cases against 1,234 of them, arrested as many as 1,478 for illegal money-lending-at interest rates as high as 50 per cent-and coercive recovery measures.........



Why don’t our ‘aam admi’s reps sit in the Parliament and pass a comprehensive bill, laden with extreme punishments to root out this evil?
