Map of Jehanabad district Bihar, India

‘Terror at will’ would be perhaps the most apt expression to sum up the state of lawlessness in Bihar; while extremists and various mafia groups plan operations, execute them and then retreat to their dens as and when they wish, the lax state administrative machinery has been a complete failure as lawkeepers, caught napping during most of the terrorist attacks. And unfortunately, that’s been more of a rule than exception.

The Incident: In yet another daring act, a large band of leftist-extremists struck in the Naxal-infested district of Jehanabad in a big way on Sunday night and secured release of a number of top ultras from the local jail. According to late-night reports, a 1,000-strong group of Naxalites raided the city police lines, district jail and police patrol parties at about 9 o’clock local time simultaneously and managed to get their jailed comrades liberated. Although there were reports of at least four people falling prey to the exchange of bullets, the identity of those dead was yet to be confirmed till the time of publishing this write-up.

The Modus Operandi: How well-planned was the two-hour-long operation can be gauged from the fact that having reached the city, the extremists divided themselves into three groups: as one group rushed towards the jail, the other two laid siege to the police lines and the patrol vehicles, so that they kept the policemen engaged and thus provided cover to the jail-raid operation. Ajay Kanu, the jailed incharge of Naxal operations in the region covering several border districts of Bihar and Jharkhand provinces, was among the confirmed escapees.

Hang These Politians: Now, where are beloved politicians, the biggest unproductive burdens on the state exchequer? What are they good for? Enjoying all princely facilities and sitting pretty in their air-conditioned posh chambers, just to mint money through their agents? Anybody familiar with the state of affairs in Bihar knows that there’s nothing left in the name of law & order or development. If at all there’s anything worth making news there, it’s the stories of ‘jungle raj’, presided over by Indian Railway Minister and a full-time clown called Lalu Yadav, and his illiterate idiot wife, Rabri Devi.

One wonders whether Biharis committed some grave sins in their previous lives that they are condemned with such hopeless leaders...one after another!
