
On Wednesday, Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor Tejinder Khanna issued the order to rope in as many as 80 Indian Air Force officials and 20 Navy officials on Delhi roads just to control the traffic control system. The Delhi government has now launched a special drive to control the killer Blueline buses that have been killed 96 people this year only.
According to the report, the defence personnel would supervise the traffic control in the capacity of ’special traffic wardens’. The Delhi government has given them their identity cards and some booklets describing the violations details of the vehicles committing visible traffic violations on Delhi roads.
The special traffic warden would send information regarding the traffic violators to the Delhi Traffic police after every seven days. After receiving the violations slip from the traffic wardens, the traffic police would take necessary legal actions against violators.
According to the new warden scheme, the special traffic wardens will have the power and facilities to inform the traffic control room in case of any traffic problems such as defective traffic signals, accidents on roads, encroachment, wrong parking and traffic congestion in Delhi.
Khanna further said that the special traffic officers might also give suggestions to traffic department regarding the measures for bringing about improvement in traffic situation. They may also suggest about the road engineering changes for the smooth flow of traffic.
The blueline buses killed nine people and injured 10 others in last 10 days on Delhi roads. The police said that the exceptional growth of human and vehicle population in the city clubbed with the lack of driving sense, low training and irresponsible behavior of some vehicle drivers have worsen the traffic situation in Delhi. Delhi Police impounded at least 200 blueline buses and charged many drivers in last 3-4 days.
