The UK TV show Big Brother is a reality show and Shilpa’s life is real too. Shilpa was abused with racial remarks from her co-stars in the show. She felt the racial abuse and Indians everywhere, even in UK, felt the same while watching the video footage.
Now, when the matter has transformed into international issue, Shilpa took a sudden U-turn on Thursday night and said she was no victim.
She said that
the behaviour of her housemates towards her was not racially motivated. I do not feel there was any racial discrimination from Jade’s side. I do not think that is true. I think there is many insecurities from Jade but it is definitely not racial.
The British Channel 4 has showed her statement put on its website.
When the Big Brother, in the show asked her about her thought on Jade’s remarks, Shilpa shook her head in the negative and said
No, I take it back. Everyone was having an argument. I do not think that is true now. People say things in a fit of anger.
But I stand corrected. It’s been a fractious few days in the Big Brother House. I am happy today. I was not happy two days ago.
The way I live, if something has saddened me, it takes me a day to understand, analyze and then I just leave it right there and then I move on, that’s the way I’ve always lived.
Now, let me tell you the possible cause behind the sudden twist in the tale:
The Times of India has reported that after this incident, the show got negative publicity through out the UK.
So, the sponsors are walking out of the show. This may be called as Big blow to the show producers as well as the British TV Channel 4.
The show’s chief sponsor, Carphone Warehouse announced it was withdrawing its 3 million pound support by saying that it did not want to associate its brand with a show that consistently showed racially objectionable behavior.
While Shilpa may have had second thoughts about her housemates objectionable remarks towards her, the issue is still about ‘racism’.
Shilpa should know one thing clearly that she is an Indian there. The remarks, which were made to her, were not actually towards her only but for Indians as well. However, human being wants money and Shilpa is a human being too...
