The digital television space is all set to experience another revolutionary change. The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is prepared to launch the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) by using broadband services most probably in October. The other private players in India are still pondering to launch this IPTV.

For this launch, MTNL is going to tie with IOL Broadband to provide the IPTV facilities. With this facility, the customer can watch TV, use the internet and able to make telephone calls through a single MTNL cable now.

According to the Executive Director at MTNL (Mumbai), M S Rana, with this IPTV facility people will be able to get over 200 channels, Video-on-Demand on the TV with the help of a set-top box. It will be provided on a monthly rental basis. The set top box will be connected to the TV and a broadband MTNL cable.

In the Video-on-Demand (VoD) service, viewers may stop, rewind or fast-forward a movie while watching on television. Watching TV on high-end mobiles will be reality through this IPTV services.

The IPTV technology is growing high and the TV channels are trying their hand to transmit the broadcast signal over the Internet in future.
