Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, in an important decision, has suspended 10 IPS officers and terminated the services of 6,504 constables. This is being said that Mayawati has taken this decision because those IPS officers were allegedly involved in the police recruitment scandal in the state.
According to the report, the state government has been sent recommendation to the center regarding the suspension of two IPS officers from UP cadre currently on deputation with the Union government.
Earlier in 2006, the erstwhile Mulayam Singh Yadav government had formed 55 boards recruited for the recruitment of constables in state police. The boards later recruited more than 22,000 constables for police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).
When Mayawati government came in power, it reportedly received complaints of irregularities in the whole recruitment process. Later, Mayawati ordered Shailja Kant Mishra, Addl DG, Special Task Force, to start investigation regarding malpractices allegedly happened in the recruitment.
On Tuesday, J N Chamber, Principal Secretary, Home, and DGP Vikram Singh addressed press conference and told media persons that the investigation team probed the recruitment made by 14 boards in the first phase. After the thorough investigation, the state government took the decision to suspend 12 IPS officers and terminate the services of 6,504 constables with immediate effect.
The FIRs were also to be lodged against 12 IPS officers and the departmental inquiries have also been started against 18 Additional SPs and some 40 of the Circle Officer level. They all were part of the recruitment board during the recruitment process. The investigation would be completed by September 30. This is also being said that action against more officers is possible.
According to the media reports, the investigation team found that hundreds of applicants had faked high school certificates and some recruited cops even had a criminal past record.
Many of the recruits did not even clear the medical test but they were sent for training. There were cancellations, overwriting and erasing signs in the answer sheets of the test. The recruitment boards had help group interviews in place of conducting individual interviews.
The most important part of the story is that the government would start fresh recuitment process in coming six months on the vacated posts in police administration and those who committed fraud in the previous process would be barred from taking test in the next process.
