The much-hyped wait is over and here is Tata Motor’s ‘People’s Car’. On Thursday in New Delhi Auto Expo, Ratan Tata unveiled the Rs one lakh car named ‘Nano’.
Before unveiling, Tata rejected fears and speculations regarding emission norms and road congestion and said with confidence that it would the cleanest car on roads.
He said that the car has pollution levels less than even a two-wheeler. According to him, it was a dream to make a family car, which he had seen some four years ago and now it has been fulfilled because this car is safe and affordable.
According to the reports, the car will have a three-cylinder 600-cc petrol engine with 33 bhp of power. It will also have a 30-liter fuel tank and four-speed manual gearshift.

It will have in-built air conditioning, front disk and rear drum brakes but no power steering. Tata has claimed that the car will have the mileage of 22 km/liter in city and 26 km/liter on highway.
In the wake of increasing oil prices, people are shifting towards compact and small cars. However, some of the environment experts have expressed concerns a cheap car could be more damaging to the environment by adding more pollution. In India, only 8 persons per 1000 own a car and it makes a huge potential for the success of such cars in Indian market.
