
The Left, which holds a considerable veto in the Indian parliament and whose outside support is critical to the present UPA government has scathingly attacked the Congress-led UPA government on it’s current policy of leaning more and more on the US for defence matters.
It comes in the wake of the proposed joint air-exercises between the US and India codenamed - Cope-India 05 in Kalaikunda Air Force Base in West Bengal. The four-party Left front sees a threat in the US for the future of India’s ‘independent foreign policy and the country’s strategic interests’.
It welcomed West Bengal unit of the Left to hold demonstrations outside the base against the joint AF exercises.
