The Thursday was a big day for India as well as the US in terms of establishing a strategic relationship and a new era of bilateral relationship of mutual understanding.
The US Senate has passed the India-US civilian nuclear agreement on Thursday after nearly ten hours of grueling debate. The civilian-nuclear deal will open the door to India-US nuclear cooperation for the first time in last thirty years. The Senate has passed the bill with 85-12 votes.

The bill will go to a joint conference of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Once the conferees agree on the bill, the two chambers will have to approve it again before sending it to President Bush to sign it into a law.
All these process should take place before the lame-duck session ends in December. The Congressmen would reassemble for the final phase of the session, which starts from December 4.
The bill has to complete all the due process before the end of the year. Otherwise, it will be back to house as fresh bill and it will be re-introduced in the new Congress.
