People are talking about the nuclear deal everywhere in India, US and obviously in Pakistan too (for what reason, you may simply guess). The US House of Representatives approved the deal.
The detail of the deal finds place during discussion between intellectuals, academicians and defense analysts. Let’s have a look on the basic nature and implications of the deal.
What is it?
The legislation will amend Section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. It lets the US make a one-time exception for India to keep its nuclear weapons without signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
India will have to separate its civilian and military nuclear reactors. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will make inspections of the civilian nuclear reactors.
Why debate on that?
The deal is said to undermine the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Civilian nuclear assistance is available only for the NPT signatories nations. India is not among those countries who signed NPT.
Critics say the pact help India to make nuclear bomb in eight nuclear facilities.
Best thing with the deal
The US President George Bush supports the deal.
What India will get
India imports oil for some 70 percent of its energy needs. Nuclear power will help to generate power that will nosh its speedily intensifying economy.
Support from others
France had already signed a similar kind of deal with India in February 2006. It says that the Indo-US nuclear deal will help India to fight climate change as well as to strenghten non-proliferation steps.
Why Pakistan in the debate?
Musharraf wants the same kind of civilian technology deal with the US. US already has refused the demand. Pakistani lobby in US strongly opposed the deal with India.
Why US came to India
Report says that China is supporting Pakistan`s nuclear weapons program since 1980s. According to the analysts, the US and China are on the way to establish their supremacy in the South Asian region. That is why US ignored Pakistan, who happens to be its decade old friend.

Comments
I think the prime motive of U.S. behind supporting India on the nuclear issue is not due to immediate strategic reasons but due to the reason, India is going to be a big market for U.S. in the coming years. The nuclear energy obviously boost the economy of India at which U.S. have eyes since long time.
It can simply not rely on China in terms of using it as a market largely owing to the fact that China’s erratic policies against a capitalist country and more precisely against U.S. can be carried out anytime. Secondly, China is no Iraq, Afghanistan or Iran that can be taken under ambitious pre-emptive strike to control the economy.
In case of Pakistan, even U.S. knows it well that its economy is already in shambles. Moreover, American Interest in Pakistan is purely strategic driven by geo-politics in the region.
In case of China, it is yet to come out of shadows of its decade long Sino-centric foreign policy which it has abandoned few years back. Supporting Pakistan can only pay china with respect to India with which it has recently opened up its frontier to boost regional trade.
