The Railway Minister Lalu yadav is going here and there to taking credit for the turnaround of Indian Railway. He is busy describing his efforts that helped Railway to change its face and to join the elite profit making network.

Corporate houses and management students are taking tips from the minister about the turnaround.

But all is not going well in the Indian Railway. It is running through an embarrassing and potentially crippling human resource crisis.

The salary structure is decade old and the Railway is lacking human resources, as younger generation hardly wants to go for a job in Indian Railway (IR).

IR has faced mass departure of more than sixty percent of its best officers to the private sectors, which offers high salaries. The entry of officers has become comparatively low and IR is losing its talented and experienced staffs.

Lalu has given hints to start new projects such as dedicated freight corridor. Officer with 15 years of experience earns an annual package of roughly Rs 10 lakh, while private sector salaries are between 18-24 lakh.

Losing experienced and talented staff will be a huge loss to the railways, which needs its best men at its side as it reinvents its passenger business and embarks on big projects like the dedicated freight corridor.
