Call centers may be a good career prospect, but a recent report by the Delhi Diabetes Research Centre (DDRC) reveals that the employees here are the latest to fall prey to Type II diabetes: increased blood sugar levels due too unbalanced diet and stress.

As many as 80 percent of the 53 employees in the age group of 19-31 years - employed in different call centers in Gurgaon and Noida — who were studied, were found to be diabetic. This time, too, more men were found to be suffering form the disease.

The pilot study was conducted taking into account the employees’ medical condition over a period of years.

DDRC officials say the number of patients from this industry is fast on the rise. The problem turned out to be more acute for those who with a family history of diabetes. Only 20 percent of the women were found to be diabetic, while — there was a far higher percentage of men suffering from the disease.

The reason is - constant exposure to stress. Several of them are found suffering from stress, difficulty in adjusting at home, insomnia - even in the most comfortable conditions.

• Loss of appetite
