
Power game turns to pressure game now. Earlier, the U S had mounted pressure on India on the question of long awaited nuclear deal. The power of the superpower played a crucial role undoubtedly in the deal.
Now it is turn of India. The U S government is facing problems to pass the deal in the congress. The defence minister clarified that the US congress should ratify the civil nuclear energy deal quickly. New Delhi has also emphasized that the Congress should clear the deal before it negotiates safeguards deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
However, India is optimistic about the US Congress clearing the legislation sooner rather than later. The talks between Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran and US Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns begin in London today.
