Just after one day of the Delhi High Court’s decision to award death sentence to Santosh Singh in the Priyadarshini Matto murder case, The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad ,said that he never asked Prime Minister about the clemency for Mohd Afzal.

It seems, Indian Judiciary has sent a message to the people of India as well as Indian legislative too that if a man can be hanged for raping and murdering a woman, then why not a man should be hanged when he is convicted to make crime against the nation.

Azad did a smart move by sdaying that he never asked PM for the clemency damand to Afzal. On the other hand, he admitted that he does not personally favour the death penalty.

Media people caught him during the release of a book on Jammu that is authored by Pervez Deewan, Chairman and Managing Director of ITDC.

He, at the same time, criticized the media as well as opposition parties for not soughting any clarification on the issue.

Hr said further that he briefed PM about two issues in Chandigarh. Those issues were increasing of Haj quota for the state and the detail of ongoing agitation over Afzal’s death penalty in the valley.

When he was asked that why did he remain silent on the matter for so many days, he reacted by saying he is not a 24-hr news channel. His silence put a lid on the agitation. The normalcy in the valley was important not his answer to his critics.
