It will be a shame for us Indians if Afzal will get the presidential pardon.
In practice, the union cabinet takes the decision in the name of the President of India. And we all know that the people sitting in the cabinet are the elected leaders who can put anything on stake to gain political weight.
Not only the Union Cabinet, this is also applicable to political leaders anywhere in India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Nagaland.
Some protests happened in the valley and the leaders of J&K started urging to the President for the clemency to Mohd Afzal. No need to say whom Mohd Afzal is and for what cause he is going to be hanged on which date because i am not an electronic media people. This will be wastage of time.
The leaders are overlooking bigger nationwide repercussions. Afzal’s crime against his country has gone beyond the limits of sympathy.
Just look at the leaders who demanded presidential pardon for Afzal. J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti are among those leaders. They did it only after the September 29 general strike in the Valley over the issue.
They are now in the race to gain the political support to provide them verbal support.
Where were those leaders when the Supreme Court had upheld the death penalty decision to Mohd Afzal?
Suddenly what happened to them now? Why they started singing same song altogether?
Its all because there is a little hope to cash the emotional outburst of the common people of Valley.
Hanging to neck until death is an extreme kind of penalty but the conspiring against the most important institution and the nations pride is the biggest crime too.
If you are not honoring your country and its institutions because of any matter, that does not mean you will go and blow those institutions.
The J&K leaders have argued that the death penalty would disrupt the peace process and precipitate a fresh instability.
Is this not a kind of threat? What has happened to our leaders?
Why don’t they think that the pardon or reducing the penalty would send wrong signals to anti-national elements to go lightly even after committing the worst kind of crime against the country?
I am in no mood to write here about the statements made by those J&K leaders because all of those are singing different songs on the same tune and they all need public’s support for vote, nothing else.
I just want to say to have look to the family members of the police officials died while saving the supreme institution of the country. They lost their sons and fathers on December 13, 2001. Do not cheat them. Just think of that...

India claims to be the biggest democratic country in the world.So it is duty of all democratic & peace loving Indians to challenge the punishment given to Afzal Guru.As Afzal was not given chance to clear his position.Policy makers of India should keep this realty in mind that their aggresive policy againist Kashmires can be more harmfull for India in Kashmir.It is strange that core issue before India is supposed to creat normalcy in Kashmir,but if Afzal Guru will be hung it will disturb all efforts of normalcy in Kashmir as well as peace process between Pak India.If Guru will be hang those Kashmires who haue soft corner for India will change their sympathy.So called leaders are enjoying.They need issues.As majorty of So called Kashmiri leaders haue self desires with the disturbane of Kashmir.They are enjoying in both sides.Victim is poor Rahim, Krishan & Ranjeet.As majorty of affected Kashmires are not getting any relief wheather they sacreficed their lives for Jehad,Pakistan Or India.So on behalf of such poor majorty common affected Kashmires I request to Prime Minister Great India to avoid hanging Afzal Guru.

In principle, I am completely against death penalty. However, if at all the death penalty is there, then no criminal deserves it more than the diabolical terrorists who attacked the Parliament.
As far as calling Musharraf ’fair and liberal’, I guess you should get the facts about this dictator right. First, he choreographed the Kargil war, supported the Taliban and its al-Qaida sponsors. Only when threatened to be annihilated by the US following the 911 outrage that he switched sides. He still is fully supporting terror campaigns against India - the latest being the Mumbai bomb blasts. Musharraf’s regime is still providing safe haven to most wanted criminals, dreaded terrorists and thugs like Dawood Ibrahim.
Musharraf is by no figment of imagination a dove.
As far as the Kashmir cause is concerned, there is no way that it can be allowed to be ceded from the Indian Union. Kashmir is an integral part of the Republic of India. Only when the Kashmiri people, separatists and the Pakistanis realize this there will be peace.
The destiny of Kashmiri people lies in the hands of the Kashmiris. Give up violence, accept being Indians and participate in mainstream politics. Peace will come automatically.
As far as executing the terrorist Afzal is concerned, no one can save him - be it anti-death penalty voices like me or Kashmiri protests or political threats. Afzal will definitely swing from the gallows of Tihar. It is just a matter of time.
Afzal Guru deserves to die as do all terrorists who have no regard for the life of others. He got a due process which is a lot more than he offered his innocent victims. It will be shameful on the part of nation’s leaders if they buckle down to the demands of the supporters of this man who committed a most heinous crime.
To all the ”human right groups”: If you are pleading for Afzal, why not also plead for clemency for Osama bin Laden???? Certainly Mr. Bush has implicated the wrong person! Osama got a very unfair trial!!

Our nation’s Supreme Court is not biased, and is known to be extremely fair. I think accusing the court of unfair trial should be treated as contempt of court by the ”human rights group” and they should be prosecuted

Well after reading so many of your viewpoints i guess we should try to look at facts rather than just discuss what we have been discussing..India by nature has been a very tolerant nation and its a matter of great pride for us indians ,it is due to this very reason that we never want to take any harsh step ,u talk abt Kandahar..we let go the terrorists to save our people from the suffering and we have been like to this to many nations who seek refuge when kicked by so many others.But sometimes its important to make others realise that if it is in our nature to forgive and let go ,then sometimes bolder actions are needed so that we should not be turning blind eye to the atrocities and sufferings caused to us for no reasons.In such a scenario we should be confident and strong enough to take a bold decision as is Afzal’a case here.He has been an example of atrocities committed on our fellow indians and even if we try to be impartial to this we may say to some humans.then does anyone think they would be in a position to forgive someone who has the courage of doing such heinous acts against humanity.Besides at this point again if we bend we pose a really sad example for our nation that please fellow citizens..guilty will be brought to book but they go scot free after sometime as they are also Human ,in the cover that this is something pardonable..So I ask what we should be as a nation should we soo tolerant or we should putting a bold step forward so as to let the world know that we are not the Underlings but people who love people and if someone tries to play with us, we know how get our acts together and let Only Good Prevail...

Indian hearts rule their minds! This sentiment has echoed time and again and it is this proclivity of the Indians that has made this issue gain preponderant importance.What we need to realise is that Afzal has committed this henious crime and there are no two ways about it.There are bound to be clemency appeals on few grounds as recently reported by a leading daily that his death would trigger the restive youth in Kashmir against India. But the underlying point is that if we let go Afzal then what point are we trying to prove? The terrorists are not going to stop their diabolic activities come what may. By going lenient on Afzal India is going to gain the wrath of terrorists but the time has definitely come to rise and stand against them.Sympathising with him would bring a smile on the already ribbing terrorists!
