uma khurana sting

On Monday afternoon, a Delhi court granted bail to Uma Khurana, the school teacher arrested by Delhi Police on last Thursday in the connection with a sting operation showed by the news channel ‘Live India’.

The channel had accused Uma Khurana of forcing school students into prostitution by showing the visuals of the sting operation done by channel’s reporter. Later, the police found, after watching the unedited videotapes that the sting was actually an attempt to frame Khurana to settle some personal scores.

The Delhi Police crime branch has also arrested the reporter, Prakash Singh, and the aspiring journalist girl, rashmi Khanna, who was posed as the ‘victim school girl’ in the sting operation.

Later, Rashmi filed an application before the court and said that she wanted to be approver in the case. Now, this would help the police to understand all the drama staged by the reporter Prakash Singh for proving the case in court.

On the other hand, the Delhi High Court Bench comprising Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna asked the police to submit the details of the evidence what they had collected against Uma Khurana and reporter Prakash Singh.

The sting had caused such a stink that the HC stepped in the matter and had taken suo motu cognisance on the basis of reports in newspapers.

The High court also asked the Delhi Government to re-consider its decision to remove Khurana from her service now when the police have claimed that she was framed in the case.

Earlier, Khurana’s lawyers have told the court that her ex-colleagues were behind the sting operation. They said that Khurana had earlier accused a former vice-principal of Vivek Vihar Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya of financial irregularity. The former vice-principal was actually masterminded the whole episode against Khurana.
