Today is the last day of the Supreme Court’s deadline given to Orissa DG B B Mohanty for surrendering before a Jaipur court. According to the report, the Jaipur police may began proceedings to arrest him if Mohanty fails to surrender in the court.

DG B B Mohanty’s son, Bitti Mohanty, is a rape convict and BB Mohanty is accused of helping his son to jump parole from Jaipur Central Jail. Since Biti was convicted on the charges of rape, he had been lodged in a Rajasthan jail.

A fast-track court in Alwar convicted Biti in the charge of rape and awarded life term. Later, Biti jumped parole from Jaipur central jail and has been on the run for over five months now.

In December last year, Biti jumped parole as he had been granted parole from November 20 to December. After December, he failed to surrender in the court. The Jaipur jail administration had blamed that BB Mohanty had furnished the surety bonds but Biti has gone missing since then.

The Rajasthan government had issued property attachment warrant against BB Mohanty and tried to recover amount of Rs 50,000, which he had pledged through surety bonds for the parole of his son Biti Mohanty.

The Cuttack High Court had granted interim relief to BB Mohanty from getting arrested for the past few months. But, the Supreme Court stayed relief given to him by the Cuttack High Court.
