The government of India is in constant touch with officials of Kenyan authorities and asked them to ensure safety of the people of Indian community living in the violence-hit African nation. On Thursday, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi that India is deeply concerned about the Indians in Kenya.

Earlier, Modi had raised the issue of security of Indian people by writing a letter to Manmohan Singh and urged to take immediate action. According to the report, PM replied by giving an assurance that the Centre has already taken necessary steps in this direction to ensure safety of the people living in Kenya.

PM said:

The Centre is closely monitoring the situation in Kenya. I have asked the Ministry of External Affairs to take immediate action in this direction.

The Indian High Commission is also in touch with the Indian community and Kenyan authorities to ensure that Indians are provided adequate security and safety.

Earlier Mnodi had written a letter to PM and expressed his concerns on the safety of Gujarati people living in Kenya who reportedly suffered heavy losses to their property due to violence in Kenya.
