After the Calcutta High Court order regarding the PIL on Singur land acquisition matter, people had thought the West Bengal government would go to back foot. But the CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has showed no sign of going back on the question of Singur Tata Motors project. On the other hand, the CM said that the chemical plant planned for Nandigram might be relocated to any other place if the local people oppose it.
Buddhadeb told to a news channel that on the question of Singur, it will be impossible to us to go back. He said;
If I go back in this case, I will never be able to raise my head. It will send a very wrong message all over the world, all over the country.
I am sure I will be able to make the people of Singur understand why the Tata project is necessary for the development of our state.
On the question of the Nandigram Special Economic Zone that is planned by the Indonesia’s Salim Group, he accepted that some mistakes have been done by local administration. They took measures without consulting the local people and the panchayats.
When he was asked about the CPM’s further move, he said that the party units would go to people to explain about the importance of the project for the people of Nandigram.
He also said that if the people of Nandigram do not understand the importance of the plan, he will never go that place and will change the venue of the proposed Chemical Hub.
He answered on the Trinamool Congress charges over the controversy of more than 360 acres of land at Singur by saying that at least 960 acres of a total of 997 acres had already been voluntarily handed over by the landowners. They have submitted the letter of the consent also.
Regarding compensation, Bhattacharjee said about Rs nine lakh were being paid for an acre of single cropland and Rs 12 lakh for multi-crop.
He said further that the proposed small car project is necessary for the state’s infrastructure as well as economical overall development. The people of Singur should understand the importance of the project.
