This is the end of the nightmare for Mohammad Haneef and for his family members too. On Friday, the Australian court dropped all charges related to involvement in severe terror act, against the Indian doctor Mohammad Haneef. The Australian Police had detained him in the connection with the failed UK terror plot.

The Commonwealth prosecutors decided to withdraw all the charge of supporting a terrorist organisation against Haneef. The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions Damian Bugg had also reviewed the case in the wake of growing pressure from India as well as from civil rights group for fair trail. Then, the Australian court decided to drop all the charges against him.

On Friday, at the Magistrates Court in Brisbane, a representative of the Director of Public Prosecutions urged the court to adjourn the matter for some time. In between Bugg got time to complete his review of the case against Haneef. Later, the Australian government has said that it will not revoke the doctor’s working visa.

On Thursday, the Australian Health Minister Tony Abbott had made a statement that Haneef should be treated like a ‘good guy’ if he is found not guilty of supporting terrorism.

Even after 11 days detention and massive search operation, the Australian police had failed to find any evidence against Haneef that could prove Haneef’s involvement in the terror plot.

However, on July 14, after much criticism by the civil rights groups working in Australia against the 11-day long detention of Haneef without any charges, the Australian Federal Police has finally charged Haneef for providing support to a terrorist group, the specific allegation involves recklessness, rather than intention.

Later, the police failed to convince the court to establish the logic behind the charges leveled against Haneef and has accepted that those crucial evidences against Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef were erroneous.
