After much criticism by the civil rights groups working in Australia against the 11-day long detention of Indian Dr. Muhammed Haneef without leveling any charges, the Australian Federal Police has finally leveled charged against Haneef.
According to the report, Haneef is the second person who has been charged in the connection with failed terror attacks in London and Glasgow. Haneef was in detention since July 2 when the Australian police had arrested him from Brisbane airport. Before Haneef, the Iraqi doctor Bilal Abdullah has been charged with providing support to a terrorist organization.

Mick Keelty, Australian Federal Police Commissioner, said:
Dr Haneef has been charged for providing support to a terrorist group, the specific allegation involves recklessness, rather than intention, the allegation being that he was reckless about some of the support he provided to that group. In particular, the provision of his SIM card for the use of the group.
The report says that Haneef has been charged for allegedly giving a SIM card to his cousin Sabeel Ahmed.
Sabeel Ahmed and his brother Kafeel Ahmed are among seven other suspects who have been held in Britain. On Saturday, the AFP would produce Haneef in a Brisbane court.
On the other hand, Haneef’s counsel Peter Russo said that Haneef was very upset after receiving the information. He has decided to apply for bail. Earlier, haneef had explained before the police that he was on the way to India just to see his wife and newborn daughter.
According to Indian intelligence agency report, only Kafeel Ahmed was directly involved in the plot as he was the suspected person who had rammed the jeep into Glasgow airport. Kafeel’s brother Sabeel and their cousin Dr Haneef were not involved in the plot. However, Sabeel knew about the plot but he opted to remain his mouth shut.
