An amateur ornithologist has spotted a new kind of bird species in the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh. This is first discovery of its kind in the last fifty years in India. Ramana Athreya had seen for the first time the multicolored bird, Liocichla bugunorum, in the month of May of 1995.
According to Mr. Athreya, he named it after the Bugun tribe that usually lives in the region. The bird has a black cap, a light yellow spot around the eyes and yellow, crimson, black and white patches on the wings.
The bird was discovered in May 1995 but it was kept secret until the bird was confirmed as a new species.
